The Splash Rosecomb Bantam has a lovely black and white variable feather pattern. Adding to their attraction, the handsome roosters have especially long sickle feathers.
Rosecombs are true bantams — they are not miniatures of a standard-size breed. The breed name comes from the distinctive comb shape. The bright red comb is flat and broad, lies close to the head, and comes to a characteristic point at the back.
Rosecombs are excellent foragers. And they fly really well. So, for their own protection, they are typically kept in covered pens.
Rosecomb chicks take a bit longer to mature than most breeds, so they require a bit longer brooding period. But once they are grown, they are exceptionally vigorous and hardy.
The Splash Rosecomb Bantam has not yet been admitted to the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection, but makes an impressive and self-sufficient backyard ornamental. Here at Chickens for Backyards you can also find Black Rosecomb Bantams and Blue Rosecomb Bantams.
