Red Jungle Fowl

Red Jungle Fowl are larger than bantams but smaller than most other chicken breeds. Mature hens weigh only about 3 pounds; roosters weigh 4½ pounds.

This is the ancient breed from which today’s vast variety of domesticated chickens were derived. However, Jungle Fowl retain their excellent survival instincts. They are therefore the best for free ranging while avoiding predators.

Most of our Jungle Fowl have slate blue or gray legs and white earlobes. Some may have red earlobes and moss green leg coloration. That’s because Red Jungle Fowl come in five subspecies, each with somewhat differing DNA.

Please note that Hawaii does not allow us to ship Jungle Fowl to that state.
