The Partridge Cochin was recognized by the American Standard of Perfection in 1874 and to this day remains an appealing show bird. Its docile disposition makes it easy to train for exhibition.
The inherent gentleness of these chickens also makes them popular as pets. Children are especially fascinated by these huge, round chickens that are so friendly and well-behaved.
The handsome Partridge rooster has rich red hackle and saddle feathers complementing a lustrous black breast and tail. The hen is a deep reddish-bay, each feather penciled in black.
The hens are well known for their willingness to brood. And because they are so massive, they can easily handle the larger eggs of turkeys, ducks, and geese.
