The Golden Laced Wyandotte was first developed in Wisconsin in 1880 by crossing the Silver Laced Wyandotte with a large black and red-patterned fowl known as the Winnebago. The Golden Laced Wyandotte got its name from the Wyandotte Nation, but they have no direct historical association with the tribe. They have black laced golden feathers that cover its body and black tail. Its plumage is very distinct, and due to its loosely-packed feathers and small comb, the Golden Laced Wyandotte is not susceptible to frostbite and can withstand very cold temperatures. This has made the Golden Laced Wyandotte a desirable bird for farmers in colder parts of the country.
Golden Laced Wyandotte chickens are not known for being overly affectionate, but they are calm and even-tempered, allowing them to get along with other chicken breeds. They prefer to have plenty of space to roam. They will crow and cluck a lot throughout the day, making this noisy breed better suited for a rural environment. The hen is known for being broody and will enjoy setting on eggs and caring for the baby chicks.
Golden Laced Wyandotte chickens are dual-purpose birds that will provide you with both eggs and meat if you so choose. While roosters of this breed grow to be roughly 8.5 pounds, hens can reach 6.5 pounds and produce anywhere from 180-260 brown eggs per year.

Pretty Chicks
We have received 2 orders from Chickens for Backyards in the past 6 months- both shipments were great! Everyone survived, hopped out of the box, and starting eating/drinking. Amazing. Our first set of girls are beautiful! Big healthy thriving hens. We ended up with a Roo and CFB were wonderful to work with and reimbursed us. He was gorgeous! But loud and had to move to a farm. 2nd set are still young, but they are thriving and growing. We don’t have a favorite big hen as they are all so different but all sweet and super friendly – Barred Plymouth, Buff Orpington and Americauna. They’ve been laying for a few months now. New chicks – Production Red, Laced Wyndotte, Americauna, and Light Brahma. My only disappointment is that our first Americauna is not laying blue/green eggs. They are large light eggs Maybe the second one will lay different colors?? I think you get much better quality hens than you would from the local tractor supply. These are good looking girls!

Great addition to our flock!
We have one Golden Laced Wyandotte and love this breed. Our little Sofia is smaller than the rest of our hens but she’s my son’s favorite. While a little more anxious than some of our other breeds, she’s a great addition to our flock and is a gorgeous bird. We would definitely order again.

Beautiful, but not very friendly
We ordered 2 of these chickens along with a dozen others. Everyone who sees these chickens (now 2 months old) comments on how beautiful they are. They have been healthy and active since day one. They are not very friendly, however, and run away from us whenever we are around. They are probably the least friendly of all the chicks we ordered.

Thanks
Hello,
Just wanted to let you know that our girls are doing great. With 7 chickens we are getting 5 or 6 eggs on alternating days. Sometimes 7 a day! Mademoiselle CuCoo Marans lays the biggest eggs I have ever seen and they are almost always double yolks.
I am a very satisfied customer. If and when I need more birds I will be getting them from y’all.
Cheers
Mark in Texas
And you were absolutely correct on the fire ants. They don’t stand a chance. In fact the girls have almost eradicated them completely from our yard. Something I have not been able to do in the last 10-15 years….

Golden Beauties
I absolutely love my chickens that I bought from Chickens For Backyards. I purchased a male and female golden beauties. The rooster, Roo, is very gentle, and yet watchful. The female, Gilda, is a beauty personified. I love the nature of the chickens. I have several more breeds that I purchased and each and every one of them are wonderful. I cannot say enough good things about Chickens For Backyards. My chicks arrived alive and healthy and ready to eat and grow. I have had so much fun and received so much joy watching them develop. People at work have noticed a remarkable change in me since I have chickens. I am happier and more relaxed. I get to go chill with the ‘girls.. and Roo” and just enjoy life.

Love my beautiful chickens. They will be five months old Sept 15th. I haven’t got eggs yet but waiting patiently. So far no roosters either . I paid extra for pullets. They are 14 out of 16 survivors. They are calm and make a soft whirring sound when I am among them very gentle and easy to handle.

We recieved them 5/12/2020
Absolutely stunning babies! So far they have adventurous yet loving personalities. We ordered pullets just to have some eggs and are looking forward to watching them grow. ,

Love them! With frequent socializing with them they have become very friendly. When i sit and visit with them it doesn’t take long until i have one jumping up on my shoulder , arm and/or leg. They like to flock around me and often try to pick weed seeds out of my shoes.
