The magnificent Columbian Rock Bantam is mostly silvery white with a black and white cape and a black tail. It was developed in the United States and standardized by the American Poultry Association in 1960. This variety is still somewhat rare.
Though small, Plymouth Rock Bantams are a good dual-purpose chicken. Both hens and roosters are hefty for bantams and therefore make a nice-size table bird. The hens are good layers of small eggs with brown shells. They will brood and are excellent mothers.
These friendly birds are easy to raise and easy to tame. They are good foragers, and also do well where living space is limited.
The Columbian Rock Bantam is truly an all-around chicken. Not only is it a wonderful small-scale dual-purpose breed but also excellent as a pet, popular at exhibition, and an impressive backyard ornamental. Chickens for Backyards also offers the same color pattern in the larger breed Columbian Plymouth Rock chicken.
