Buff Cochin chickens for sale are a wonderful choice for backyard flock owners who want a large, gentle breed with soft golden feathers, feathered legs, and a calm personality. Buff is the original plumage color of the Cochin breed, which originated in Shanghai, China. Buff Cochin standard chickens arrived in North America in the early to mid-1800s and were first listed in the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection in 1874.

Cochins are large chickens with an impressive, fluffy appearance. Their soft feathering extends down the legs and covers the feet, giving them a full and beautiful look in the backyard coop. Buff Cochin chickens have rich golden buff plumage that makes them especially popular for exhibition and ornamental flocks.

Buff Cochin hens are well known for their strong broody instincts. Because of their large size, they can often cover regular chicken eggs as well as larger eggs from turkeys, geese, and ducks. They are also good foragers, though their appetite matches their size.

These chickens do best in cooler weather and should have plenty of shade and fresh water in warm climates to help prevent heat stress. Because of their feathered legs and feet, they also prefer clean, dry areas instead of muddy conditions.

Despite their size, Buff Cochin chickens are known for being exceptionally gentle, laid-back, and friendly. They can do well in backyard coops and are often suitable for families with children. If you are looking for friendly chickens for sale, Buff Cochins are a beautiful way to add calm temperament, classic style, and pet-like charm to your flock.
