The Brassy Back Old English Game Bantam is one of several Old English bantam varieties developed in Great Britain. They most likely derive from mixed-breed bantams that once roamed the English countryside. The Brassy Back variety was accepted into the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection in 1990.
The males have beautiful black and brassy-gold plumage. The females’ feathers are black tinged with brassy-gold.
These bantams like to roost up high —3 to 4 feet or even more off the ground. As a breed they are hardy and long-lived.
The hens make excellent and protective mothers. The roosters protect the females, and sometimes even help raise the chicks. Brassy Back Old English Game Bantams make a fun and colorful addition to any backyard.
