The Blue Rosecomb Bantam has several distinctive features, including its bluish slate-gray plumage, pure white earlobes, and the comb shape that gives this breed its name. The bright red comb is flat, broad, close to the head, and comes to a protruding point at the back. Additionally, the roosters have extremely long sickle feathers.
Rosecomb Bantams are true bantams, meaning they have no standard-size counterpart. They originate from England, where they trace back to the 1400s. The Blue variety was admitted to the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection in 1960.
Rosecomb chicks are slow to mature, requiring more care than faster growing breeds. But once they mature, Rosecombs are extremely hardy and are excellent foragers.
Rosecombs like to fly, but they also do well in confinement. They are often housed in covered pens to prevent them from getting into harm’s way.
The Blue Rosecomb Bantam is popular primarily as an ornamental chicken and as an impressive show-room favorite. You might also consider our Black Rosecomb Bantams and our Splash Rosecomb Bantams.
