There are very few chicken breeds that are capable of laying as many eggs as Black Australorp chickens. After first being developed in Australia in 1919 as the Australian answer to England’s Orpington breed, the breed went on to set a world record in the 1920s when a group of Black Australorp hens laid more than 1,800 brown chicken eggs in 35 weeks. The Black Australorp breed then went on to smash that same world record when a single Black Australorp hen laid 364 eggs in 365 days. Its egg-laying abilities have made the Black Australorp one of the most desirable chickens in the world. Chickens for Backyards has Black Australorp chicks for sale so that you can enjoy the benefits in your backyard.
Despite being a very productive breed, Black Australorp chickens are very gentle and passive nature. Because of this, Black Australorp chicks are ideal for families with small children who wish to take part in their care. Additionally, their quiet temperaments make them a welcomed addition to any flock, as they tend to get along with most other chicken breeds due to their docile nature. Aside from this, Black Australorp chicks will also grow to be very beautiful chickens, with all black feathers and a gorgeous iridescent sheen reflecting green, purple and pink hues in the sunlight.
When you add a Black Australorp chicken to your farm or backyard flock, you can expect it to lay approximately 200 to 280 brown eggs per year. Black Australorp chickens will also adapt well to almost any space, whether it be a small coop or a large yard, ensuring that you will not have to worry about making special accommodations. Black Australorp roosters can reach a healthy weight of 8.5 pounds. The hens usually average around 6 pounds; demonstrate great broodiness which makes them ideal for breeding purposes.

Sweetest Chickens Ever
I absolutely love my Black Australorps. I had one from another vendor and was impressed with her calmness and sweet disposition. When I ordered two more from Chickens for Backyards, I wasn’t sure if my first one (Phoneshia) had just been a one-of-a-kind. I’m so pleased that at nearly 6 months of age these two (Bella and Bathsheba) are just as sweet as my first BA. They arrived healthy and happy — and are great layers, too!

thanks
Hello,
Just wanted to let you know that our girls are doing great. With 7 chickens we are getting 5 or 6 eggs on alternating days. Sometimes 7 a day! Mademoiselle CuCoo Marans lays the biggest eggs I have ever seen and they are almost always double yolks.
I am a very satisfied customer. If and when I need more birds I will be getting them from y’all.
Cheers
Mark in Texas
And you were absolutely correct on the fire ants. They don’t stand a chance. In fact the girls have almost eradicated them completely from our yard. Something I have not been able to do in the last 10-15 years….

Great buy
We purchased our chicks last spring. They all came very well packed and in excellent condition. Our chickens started laying at about 4 1/2 – 5 months old and have layed eggs all winter. Healthy, beautiful chickens.

Australorp Purchase April 2017
About April 24th I received 5 Australorps who I brooded with some Leghorns from a feedstore who were about 1 week older. It is May 31st now and all are healthy, forage very well and seem predator aware as far as I can tell. These may end up laying really well, and I hope they do. However, the personalities were a GREAT disappointment. They don’t seem like they are aggressive in any way. However, they are more or exactly like my Leghorns in skittishness but without the personality or the friendliness of my one Leghorn hen. I’m not sure now if it’s just the strain that I received or if it has something to do with being in with Leghorns or both. Great packaging and great, patient, customer service though.

Received 7 back in March. 5 months later and some have started laying. They are very healthy and attractive birds. They were shy at first, but have since warmed up nicely.

It’s been about a year since we purchased our first flock and just ordered our second. Our Black Australorps are great layers and did well in our hot summer and cold snap here in SC. So excited for our next flock to arrive in May. What a blessing these girls have been! We love them! P.S. I also love that we can order smaller batches of chickens for us true back yarders that can’t do 50 at a time. 🤣
