About Fawn & White Runner Ducks
The line of runner type ducks dates back as far as 2000 years ago in Indo, China. They are native to Malaysia and arrived in the United Kingdom around 1850 by way of a ship’s captain. The Fawn & White runner duck was admitted into the American Standard of Perfection in 1898.
The Indian Runner duck is an excellent alternative to pesticides because of their extremely active instinct to forage for snails, slugs, insects, etc. This would be a great duck for the farmer or small gardener who would like to grow organic food. The Indian Runner duck was originally used by farmers in parts of Asia to consume pests in the rice fields.
The Indian Runner Duck is a favorite breed of many people and the most popular color of duck. The noted feature of the Fawn & White runner duck is its long and sleek body with an upright carriage. These ducks are very active and skittish from birth. These runner ducks do not waddle; they run and are not capable of prolonged flight. They are a very good egg-laying variety that can produce around 250 eggs per year. It is a lightweight duck that matures at about 4 -4 1/2 lbs for the drake and 3 1/2 – 4 lbs for the hen duck. Fawn & White Runner ducks have a very strong flock instinct which can make for an entertaining yet sensitive pet.
