The Gray Japanese Bantam is a miniature chicken with a large comb, large wings that touch the ground, arched tail feathers, and very short legs. This breed is a great chicken to show* and will also make a great pet. Their small size requires less feed and space. This chicken is found in Japanese history as far back as the 1700s. The Gray Japanese Bantam was recognized by the American Poultry Standard of Perfection in 1914. We offer 5 different colors of the Japanese Bantam.
*This variety we sell is more expensive because the parent stock is out of excellent show/exhibition stock. Their legs are very short which is one of the qualities judges at chicken shows are looking for.
TIP: These show types are very fragile as baby chicks and require your attention for the first 3 weeks. We recommend that you put the chick starter feed in a household blender for 10 seconds before feeding. Also, use some low profile lids of jars for waterers first 3 weeks until they are big enough to reach a regular chick waterer. On arrival please do a quick dip of their beak into the warm water every 30 minutes for the first ½ day.
