In our previous blog post, we talked about the different ways you can store your freshly laid eggs. One of the most popular ways is to store them in the refrigerator. This will keep them good and fresh for up to six months.
Nevertheless, there are correct ways to store your eggs in the refrigerator to make them last those six months, or longer. Here’s how:
Keep them in the main body of the refrigerator
The biggest mistake people make is placing their eggs in the refrigerator door. The main body of the refrigerator is the coldest and keeps the most consistent temperature. As such, it’s best to place your eggs here, preferably in the back of the fridge, for them to last the longest.
Store them in a carton
When storing your eggs in the fridge, be careful not to simply place them in a basket or on a shelf. They should be stored in an egg carton. Why? Because cartons can help protect the eggs from damage. They also allow the eggs to be stored with the large end up, which will help the yolk remain centered.
Keep raw egg whites or yolks in airtight containers
Eggs, when still in their shells, should be kept in cartons. However, if you’re separating your whites and yolks, then each should be placed in airtight containers. To prevent the yolks from drying out, add a little cold water with them and then drain the water prior to use.
