The Golden Comet chicken is a cross between the Cherry Egger rooster and Rhode Island White hen. Its name was inspired by its beautiful reddish-gold color but is also sometimes known as the Cinnamon Queen, Red Star, Golden Buff, or Red Six Link. It has become a very popular chicken breed over the years due to its egg-laying capabilities and the fact that it’s very easy to manage for both farmers and those who raise backyard chickens.
Golden Comet chickens have become popular pets over the years because of their happy, docile temperament. Unlike many other chickens that require constant attention and upkeep, Golden Comet chickens tend to be very easy to manage. They are very calm and excellent with young children, which can come in handy if you would like to purchase Golden Comet chicks as a means of teaching your kids responsibility. Your kids will be able to handle their chicks easily, interact with them and learn all about their nature.
Aside from the Golden Comet chicken’s use as a backyard pet, many people utilize them for egg production. Golden Comet chicks don’t grow to be very large (hens reaching 4 pounds while roosters reach a total of 6 pounds), but they are still plenty capable of laying more than 300 large, brown eggs every year – that’s roughly one egg every day.

Excellent layers!
I ordered these birds early last year and once they started laying they have not stopped! I am so impressed. Thanks for the suggestion!

i received my chicks last Feb. I ordered this breed after seeing that they can handle the Alaska cold winter. by July the 14 hens were giving me a egg a day. i was very pleased with my hens.
As soon as the time changed this fall, it was like a switch was thrown. they stopped laying. All late fall and now winter i am only getting 2 to 4 eggs a day. some Days none at all. They appear to be very healthy so i’m not sure what happened other than the colder weather. I might also add, this breed is very friendly. i pick my hens up, pet and talk to them each day.

Great choice for layers
Golden Comets are great if you want a friendly bird and a great layer; usually 5-6 eggs a week for us. They arrived in perfect health. We live in Texas and they seem to handle the heat well. They slow down their egg production a bit during the winter, but that’s typical. Just means we need more! 🙂

Comets are the Bomb!!!
I’ve ordered from Chickens for Backyards for 3 years and all chicks have arrived safely and in good condition each year. I love Comets since they are excellent layers, not too broody, and have color variations between the hens. They start laying about 6 months old and at first they lay some double yolked eggs, as many young chicks do sometimes. My last batch of comets I got 2 years ago are all still living and producing very well.

Great egg layer
Ordered 4 chicks in the spring from Chickens for Backyards, including a Golden Comet. As a chick, she was the most active and curious of the bunch. She was also the fastest grower and the first to lay eggs, a few weeks earlier than expected. She has continued her excellent egg production. Overall I couldn’t be more pleased with my shopping experience with Chickens for Backyards!

Great Pullet!
We ordered our chicks at the end of June and received our July 15th. Our Golden Comet, Anna, is one of our favorite chicks. She’s healthy, strong and is super peaceful and loveable. She’s the first one to come when you go near the coop and definitely leads her sisters. We are very pleased with her and would most definitely order again.

So adorable!
I absolutely love my golden comet, amanda! She is so addicting and fun to watch! I still remember
getting her as a baby chick. Now she is five weeks old and is already outside on field trips. She is such a big girl now and just loves when I pick her up. If I ever got more chicks I would definitely order from chickens for backyards again!

Love my new babies!
Ordered 10 hens on 5/25/19. They shipped 6/12. I was worried because we are in a heat wave. They sent two extra, and all 12 are doing beautifully. Thank you for the excellent customer service and beautiful little fluffy butts!
Next time I order chicks, it will definitely be from chickensforbackyards.com! And I’m recommending your site to all my friends!

My Golden Comets just passed 5 months old and about half are laying. These birds arrived healthy and are docile. They lay the most beautiful eggs I’ve seen!
