The White Plymouth Rock is part of the Plymouth Rock family. This breed was developed in New England in the middle of the 19th century. Early in the development process, the name Plymouth Rock was referring to a barred bird, but as more varieties were developed, it became the general reference for the breed. The White Plymouth rock also rose to great popularity in backyards and farms throughout the country. Starting with its gentle and calm demeanor as well as their healthy production of light brown eggs, these birds raised standards and became an important part of cross breeding as well. This very passive breed will be a wonderful addition to anyone's flock in confined spaces or large yards. This breed has many fans, many of those enjoy having a gentle and solid white feathered bird while still laying a brown egg. They are well suited for all types of climates and will lay year around with slightly slowed production in the winter months. Although they are considered a larger bodied bird, due to their personality it is best grouping them with other docile breeds to protect them from bullying. Hens will reach about 7 pounds and roosters will be about 8.
