White Turkeys were admitted into the American Standard of Perfection in 1874. White Broad Breasted Turkeys are the most common of commercial broad breasted strains on the market today. The White Broad Breasted Turkey is also one of the largest turkey breeds and generally is not able to reproduce very well. The parent stocks are artificially inseminated due to their large size. They also have a shorter lifespan than the heritage breeds as they are primarily bred for meat production. They have an excellent feed to meat conversion ratio. Most Americans at Thanksgiving time are setting down to a table with a White Broad Breasted Turkey.
