The Buff Orpington originated in Orpington, England in the late 1800s which explains their regal name. These birds have always been very popular for those that enjoy producing their own eggs. Being one of the most docile and gentle of all laying hens is what naturally makes them a favorite for families of all ages. Buff Orpingtons are among the top rated backyard pets for many reasons. The most obvious trait that people notice is their fluffy tan colored appearance. They are classified as a large bird and much of the reason is their thick stature and illusion of being even larger than their actual size, due to a heavy concentration of down feathers that puff out their outer feathers. This also makes this breed very cold tolerant. However, having fluffy feathers does allow rain to penetrate their plumage, so its recommended for them to have a place for them to retreat during rain showers. They are somewhat heavy, so flight is not a part of their nature making them easier to care for in a residential or confined setting. Buff Orpingtons are strong layers throughout the seasons and will account for about 150 eggs per year. If you are looking for a good setter, this breed will also be a great choice. Hens will normally reach an average weight of 7 pounds and roosters can reach up to 8 1/2 pounds.

We will email a ship date to you within 5 days of placing your order. Your chicks will arrive 1 to 3 days after that ship date. You should receive a phone call from your local post office upon delivery and we recommend you pick them up immediately upon notification.

We guarantee 100% live and healthy chicks upon delivery. Please contact us 48 hours after you have received your chicks to report any losses, so we may reimburse you for the cost of those birds. Shipping charges are not eligible for reimbursement. Reshipments are subject to availability and minimum shipping requirements. If eligible, we will reship only once. Thereafter, we will issue a refund only. Please report all losses at one time, at the end of the 48 hour period.
Cancellations & Changes
A miniumum of two week notice prior to your ship date must be given to cancel or change a live chick order.
